Krishnaveni Lakshmanan. (1942-2004)


Begins to study Bharata Natyam at the age of five with Rukmini Devi (founder of Kalakshetra dance academy and reknowned exponent of Bharata Natyam). _Graduates from Kalakshetra with diploma in Bharata Natyam with a First Class distinction. _Graduates from Madras University: fluent in Tamil, English, Telegu and Malayalam languages. Sufficient in Sanskrit and Hindi. _Receives scholarship from the Indian Government to continue her dance studies. This scholarship, usually granted for two years, was extended in her case for four years. _Recieves the post-graduate diploma from Kalakshetra with First Class distinction. _Tours extensively as Bharata Natyam performer in India, Southeast Asia Europe, U.S.A and Russia. _Awarded the title "Nritya Choodamani" (Crest Jewel of Dance) by one of India's most famous dancers, Balasaraswathi. _Awarded medal by the UNESCO in Paris for her outstanding service to Bharata Natyam. _Receives the prestigious national "Sangeeta Nataka Academy Award" from the president of India. _Conferred the "Arungkalai Selve" tiltle by the Pollahi Tamil sai Sangam in Madras. _Examiner for dance students at various Institutes including, University of
Varnasi (India), Indian Fine Arts Society (Singapore), Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (London). _Senior professor of dance at Kalakshetra, in charge of concert section. _Principal at Kalakshetra from 1998-2000.
